"I started crocheting as something different to do. Now I'm hooked!"

The Pattern Book that Started It All. MyBoshi vol 1.0

Where it all began

I started my crochet journey in September 2013 when I picked up a pattern book, hook and yarn to make a beanie hat. Slouchy beanies were all the rage back then (and in my eye are still the finest headwear to be worn ever) and something drew me towards attempting to make my very own.

After several failed attempts, much swearing, cursing the (now I know more) not so well written guides, I got started and the hat soon began to take shape. But had I got it right?

On finishing the hat, I soon discovered that I must have done something wrong, because, for it to fit my head I'd either have to shrink it several sizes smaller, or get stung by so many bees that my head would swell up to the size of a watermelon. But. I'd completed my first crochet project.

After that, I attempted to make some other hats, but they never turned out right. I tried doing things my own way, but still couldn't quite get to grips with the concept and crochet took a little bit of a back seat as I concentrated on other hobbies.

Not someone to give up easily though, I picked up the occasional magazine or pattern book and found a pattern I really liked the look of. A blanket. One that could be made as long or as short as you wanted it to be. That was what I was going to do next.

Many months later (again after a lot of YouTube searches and much difficulty in understanding different techniques. The blanket was finished. And this was where, I got hooked.

It may have taken me a couple of years, but I soon got more in to making things myself, mostly concentrating on blankets as they seemed the easiest to do.

Then, along comes 2020 and a worldwide pandemic forcing us all to stay at home, having made several successful blankets to this point, a pattern was suggested to me and I decided to give it a try (see the Bears page for more info).

Since then, I've made almost 200 cuddly toys, at least a dozen blankets, lots of hats and even tried my hand at some more traditional crochet projects.
